Moderation actions

Ban, kick, mute and warn members, delete messages in bulk, and slow a channel down. To use these, turn on the Mod actions plugin on the Plugins page of /settings.

Every ban, kick, mute and warning:

  • becomes a numbered case
  • is posted in the Moderation log
  • DMs the member what happened, with the reason and duration (see Messages from Axmo)
  • can be appealed, if your server takes appeals

Axmo replies with a summary, like “Banned … for 7 days … (case 12)”, and a View case button.

Command What it does Options
/ban Ban someone from the server. user, duration, delete_messages, reason
/unban Lift someone’s ban. user, reason
/kick Remove someone from the server. member, reason
/mute Stop someone from talking for a while. member, duration, reason
/unmute End someone’s mute early. member, reason
/warn Give someone a formal warning. member, reason
Option Description
user For /ban, anyone, even if they aren’t in the server. For /unban, paste their user ID.
member A member of the server.
duration How long, like 10m, 2h, 1d or 2w, or permanent. From 1 minute to 365 days. See Durations.
delete_messages Bans only. Delete their messages from the Previous hour, Previous 24 hours or Previous 7 days, or Don’t delete any.
reason Why. Saved in the case and shown to the member, up to 500 characters. Required for /warn, and for the others unless your server allows no reason. Type a snippet like ;spam to insert canned text.

/unban and /unmute don’t DM the member.

If someone is on a temporary ban and you ban them again, Axmo asks before changing it. It can make the ban permanent or change when it ends, and edits the existing case instead of making a new one.

/purge deletes recent messages in the current channel, up to 14 days old.

Option Description
amount How many messages to check, 1 to 500. Required.
user Only this user’s messages.
contains Only messages containing this text, up to 100 characters.
bots Only bots’ messages.
pinned Delete pinned messages too. They’re kept by default.

Purges are posted to the Messages log with a transcript file of what was deleted.

/slowmode limits how often people can send messages.

Option Description
duration Time between messages, like 30s or 5m, up to 6 hours. 0 or off turns it off. Required.
channel Which channel or thread. Defaults to the current one.
for How long until the earlier slowmode comes back, like 30m or 2h. Leave empty to keep it.

A timed slowmode shows in /schedule list as Slowmode ends, with an End now button.

Axmo refuses to act on:

  • yourself, Axmo, or the server owner
  • anyone whose highest role is the same as or above yours, or above Axmo’s
  • administrators, for mutes, since Discord can’t time them out

A moderator who bans, kicks or mutes a lot of people in a short time is held off for a few minutes, and the Moderation log says so. The server owner and mass actions aren’t counted.

On the Mod actions page of /settings:

Setting Default What it does
Allow no reason Off Lets moderators leave out the reason for bans, unbans, kicks, mutes and unmutes. Warnings always need one.
Item reminder On After a ban, kick, mute or warning with no evidence attached, reminds the moderator to add some.
