Cases

Every ban, kick, mute, warning, unban and unmute becomes a case, numbered per server. A case records who did what, to whom, why, for how long, and the evidence. Cases are made whether the action came from a moderator, automod, raid mode or an automation rule.

To look cases up and change them, turn on the Cases plugin on the Plugins page of /settings.

All of /case search’s options are optional, and the ones you give must all match:

Option Matches
user Cases against this member.
moderator Cases this moderator took.
action Ban, Kick, Mute, Warning, Unban or Unmute.
source Where it came from: a moderator, an automod rule, raid mode or an automation rule.
status Active, Expired, Lifted, Replaced or Overturned.
reason Words in the reason, 3 to 500 characters.
within How recent, from 1 hour to 365 days.
Status Meaning
Active In effect.
Expired A temporary ban or mute that ran its course.
Lifted An unban or unmute ended it early.
Replaced A newer ban or mute took over.
Overturned Overturned by a moderator or on appeal.
Deleted Hidden from lists, searches and automation rules.

/case view shows the case’s action, member, moderator, reason, duration, status and evidence, with these buttons:

Button What it does
Edit case Change the reason or length. See Editing.
Add item Attach evidence.
List items Show the evidence attached.
Overturn case See Overturning.
History Everything that happened to the case, and who did it.
Related cases Cases that share its evidence, or that lifted or replaced it.
View appeal The member’s appeal, if they made one.
Restore case On deleted cases, bring it back.

Edit case and /case edit open a form with:

  • Reason: required for warnings.
  • Length: counted from when the case was made, like 1d, 2w or permanent.
  • Notify user: update the member’s DM, and send them a new DM about the change.

Overturning says an action shouldn’t have happened. /case overturn needs a reason and a category: Wrong person, Too harsh, Rule misapplied, False positive, New evidence or Other. Overturning:

  • lifts a ban or mute the case still puts in place
  • strikes the reason through in the member’s DM about it, and DMs them that it no longer counts (turn off notify to skip this)
  • stops the case counting towards automation rules
  • shows up in /insights, by category

Only administrators can overturn by default. Moderators usually overturn by deciding appeals instead.

Deleting is for cases that should never have existed, like one made by mistake. /case delete keeps the case and its history, but leaves it out of lists, searches and automation rules. /case restore brings it back.

No default group can delete cases, so only the server owner can until they add cases.delete to a group.

Right-click a message and choose Apps → Add to case to put it straight onto a case. Axmo suggests the author’s latest case.

To gather evidence before you act, use a workspace. Each item’s card says where else it’s kept, like other cases, notes or automod reviews.

  • Nobody but the server owner edits, overturns or deletes a case against themselves, or changes its evidence.
  • With Own cases visible off, moderators can’t see cases about themselves at all.

On the Cases page of /settings:

Setting Default What it does
Own cases visible On When off, moderators can’t see cases about themselves with /case or /investigate. The server owner always can.
