Automod

Automod checks every message against the rules you turn on, and acts on the ones that break a rule, any time of day. Anything it isn’t sure about, or that you’d rather check yourself, goes to your moderators for review.

  1. Turn on the Automod plugin on the Plugins page of /settings.

  2. On the Automod rules page, turn on the rules you want. Every rule starts off. Use Change rule to set each rule’s action and limits.

  3. On the Automod filters page, add your filter list, exemptions and any other servers whose invites are allowed.

  4. On the Automod reviews page, choose a Review channel, so moderators can check what automod flags.

Changing automod’s settings needs automod.manage. No default group has it, so only the server owner can until they add it to a group.

Rule What it catches Default limit
Filtered words Words and phrases on your filter list —
Invite links Invites to other servers —
Mass mentions Too many mentions in one message 5
Spam Too many messages in a short time 5 messages in 5 seconds
Duplicate messages The same message sent again and again 3 in 60 seconds
Excessive capitals Messages that are mostly capitals 70%, in messages with at least 10 letters
Mass emoji Too many emoji in one message 10
Privacy protection ✨ Pro Messages sharing email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, account numbers, or passwords and keys —
Toxicity filter ✨ Pro Threats, insults, identity hate and severe toxicity —

✨ marks the rules that use AI models. They’re only available on Pro, and are locked on other plans. Ordinary swearing isn’t caught by the toxicity filter.

Limits can be set from 1 to 100, and windows from 1 to 3,600 seconds. A custom emoji, flag or combined emoji counts as one emoji.

Each rule has its own action, chosen under What happens:

Action Result
Flag only The message stays, and is logged and sent for review.
Delete The message is deleted. This is the default.
Delete and warn Deleted, and the member is warned.
Delete and mute Deleted, and the member is muted, 10 minutes by default, up to 28 days.
Delete and kick Deleted, and the member is kicked.
Delete and ban Deleted, and the member is banned.

Warnings, mutes, kicks and bans become cases, just as they would if a moderator took them, and can be appealed.

Turn on Deleted message notifications to DM members when automod deletes one of their messages. It’s off by default.

Privacy protection and the toxicity filter only act when they’re sure. When they’re less sure, they can send the message to your moderators instead:

  • Review from (%) sets when an AI rule sends a message for review instead of acting. Leave it at 0 to turn this off.
  • If an AI rule is often wrong for your server, /insights can suggest making it stricter about when it acts. Reset raised confidence on the rule’s form undoes this.

Set the filter list on the Automod filters page. Each entry can be:

Entry Example Matches
A word or phrase scam link The whole word or phrase only
A wildcard bad* Anything starting with bad
A regular expression /fr[e3]{2}\s*nitro/ Anything the pattern matches (RE2)

Matching ignores case, and catches common tricks like lookalike letters. Each entry can be up to 100 characters.

Download list saves the list as a text file. Upload list replaces it with a .txt file of one entry per line.

Invites to your own server are always allowed. To allow invites to other servers too, add them under Other servers allowed in invite links on the Automod filters page, up to 25.

These skip every rule:

  • Exempt roles and Exempt channels (categories and threads included), on the Automod filters page
  • ticket channels, while Skip ticket channels is on (it is by default)
  • members with the automod.exempt permission

Each rule can also skip more roles and channels of its own, with Change rule exemptions on the Automod rules page.

With a Review channel set on the Automod reviews page, flagged messages, and messages an AI rule wasn’t sure about, are posted there as Automod review cards. Without a review channel, nothing is reviewed.

Each card shows the status, the rule, what was found, why it’s there and its case, with these buttons:

Button What it does
Didn’t break rule Closes a waiting review without action.
Mark false positive For something automod already did: overturns its case and lifts the mute or ban.
View case Opens the case.
Show context Shows the messages around it.
Delete message Deletes the message.
Punish Warn, mute, kick or ban the member.

You can’t review your own message. Reviews expire after 7 days.
