Automation rules

Automation rules act on their own once someone has enough recent cases, so repeat offences get the same response every time. For example:

  • 3 warnings in 30 days → a 1-hour mute
  • 3 spam hits from automod in 1 hour → a 1-day mute
  • 2 mutes in 7 days → a 7-day ban

Automation rules are part of the Mod actions plugin. Manage them on the Automation rules page of /settings.

Press Add rule. A new rule counts warnings from anywhere and doesn’t repeat. Use Change condition and Change response to set it up.

Field What it means
Cases How many recent cases make the rule act, from 1 to 50.
Window How far back cases count, like 1h or 30d. From 1 minute to 365 days.
Cases counted Any mix of warnings, mutes and kicks.
Counted from anywhere Count cases from anywhere, or only from some origins, such as moderators or a particular automod rule.
Only for roles Apply the rule only to members with these roles.
Except roles Skip members with these roles.
Field What it means
What happens Warn, Mute, Kick, Ban, Give role or Take role.
Length For mutes and bans, like 1h or 7d. Bans can also be permanent.
Role The role to give or take.
Repeat Act again every time the count is reached again.
Growth With Repeat on, how many times longer each mute or ban lasts than the last, from 1 to 4.

For example, a mute of 1h with Repeat on and Growth 2 mutes for 1 hour, then 2 hours, then 4 hours, and so on.

Use Choose rule to pick a rule, the status toggle to turn it on or off, and Delete rule to remove it.

  • Cases from before you created a rule still count towards it.
  • Overturned and deleted cases don’t count.
  • Cases that automation rules take themselves count towards other rules, but don’t set them off, so rules can’t trigger each other in a loop.
  • A rule can’t give a role with dangerous permissions, or a role linked to a permission group.
  • The cases a rule takes say they came from an automation rule, so you can find them with /case search.

Automation rules have no permissions of their own. They’re set up on the settings page, so only the server owner can change them.
