Appeals

Appeals give members a fair way to ask for an action to be reconsidered. With appeals on, the DM a member gets about an action has an Appeal button. Their appeal is posted in your appeals channel, where moderators work through a checklist and decide. For the member’s side, see Appealing an action.

  1. Turn on the Appeals plugin on the Plugins page of /settings.
  2. On the Appeals page, choose a Channel. Without one, members can’t appeal.
  3. Choose which actions can be appealed, and how many appeals each member gets.

Appeals have no commands. Everything happens on the cards in the appeals channel.

Each appeal is posted as an Appeal card showing:

  • the member, the appeal’s status and who it’s assigned to
  • the Original moderation action: the action, its case, the moderator, the duration and the reason
  • the case’s evidence
  • the member’s statement, and any answers to your questions
  1. Work through the Review checklist, pressing Done on each step:

    1. Reviewed the case and its items
    2. Checked their history
    3. Considered their explanation

Ticking a step claims the appeal for you if nobody has yet. Undo unticks a step.

  2. If you need more from the member, press Ask for info and write what you need, up to 1,000 characters. They get it in a DM and resubmit their appeal. The card waits for their answer.

  3. Once every step is ticked, press Approve or Reject.

  • Overturn the action. Choose a category (Wrong person, Too harsh, Rule misapplied, False positive, New evidence or Other) and an optional reason. The reason is saved in the case’s history and logged, but the member won’t see it.
  • Shorten a ban or mute that’s still in place, with a new length counted from when it began.
  • Uphold the action.
  • Lengthen a ban or mute, or make it permanent.

The member gets a DM with the outcome. It doesn’t say who decided.

  • With Acting moderator can’t review on, the moderator who took the action can’t work on its appeal, unless they have appeals.manage.
  • Nobody can handle an appeal of a case against themselves.
  • Lifting, shortening or lengthening a ban or mute also needs appeals.bans or appeals.mutes.
